Hatchoo
With last night's dreams still crusting over my eyelids, I open my iPod and play. It's one of my morning rituals, as indispensable to me as taking baths and brushing my teeth. Oracle by shuffle, I know what to pray for when I step out into the world to do another day's work. And what do I hear this morning? Here were the first five songs.
It's been a hard day's night,
I should be sleeping like a log...
- "A Hard Day's Night", The Beatles
Loving one who loves you
And then taking that vow
Nice work when you can get it
And if you get, won't you tell me how...
- "Nice Work If You Can Get It", Billie Holiday
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I loved you more.
- "In My Life", The Beatles
While Mona Lisas and mad hatters,
sons of bankers, sons of lawyers,
turn around and say, "good morning" to the night.
For unless they see the sky,
but they can't and that is why,
they know not if it's dark outside or light.
- "Mona Lisa Or Mad Hatters", Elton John
The remedy is the experience,
Which is a dangerous liason.
The comedy is that it's serious,
Which is a strange enough new play on the words,
The tragedy is how you're gonna spend the rest of your nights
with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends
'Cause it all amounts to nothing in the end.
- "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)", Jason Mraz
